چکیده

Modern telecommunication networks are designed to support converged traffic including voice, data and video. [1] One major feature of these networks is that the input traffic is usually highly bursty.[2] Also, because these networks operate in a packet switching mode, there is usually a strong correlation between packet arrivals. Thus, for these networks the traditional Poisson traffic model cannot be applied because the presence of correlation between traffic arrivals violates the independence assumption associated with the Poisson processes. In this paper we consider the opportunities using of MMPP processes for the modelling of such traffic.

Optimal Sleeping Mechanism for Multiple Servers with MMPP-Based Bursty Traffic Arrival

An important fundamental problem in green communications and networking is the operation of servers (routers or base stations) with sleeping mechanism to optimize energy-delay tradeoffs. This problem is very challenging when considering realistic bursty, non-Poisson traffic. We prove for the first time the optimal structure of such a sleep mechanism for multiple servers when the arrival of jobs...

Analysing the versatility of the 2-MMPP traffic model

Cell loss is an important measure of Quality of Service (QoS) in ATM networks. Cell loss performance of ATM elements handling bursty sources must be evaluated in order to provide guaranteed QoS to users and to dimension network resources correctly. In this paper, we make a comparative study of two fitting algorithms for 2-MMPP ATM traffic models, both based on cell interarrival times: one fits ...

Modeling Local Area Network Traffic with Markovian Traffic Models

In this work, we assess the suitability of some Markovian models and their associated fitting procedures to describe IP traffic exhibiting long-range dependence. We resort to traffic traces measured at the Institute of Telecommunications – Aveiro Pole. The models under analysis are special cases of Markov Modulated Poisson Processes (MMPPs): 2-MMPP, CMPP (Circulant Markov Poisson Process) and (...

Some New Makovian Models for Traffic and Performance Evaluation in Telecommunication Networks

A number of models are being developed for the traffic, service and queuing in the emerging telecommunication networks. The task is rather difficult because the traffic is bursty and correlated. These models include the compound Poisson process (CPP), the Markov modulated Poisson process (MMPP) and self-similar traffic models such as the Fractional Brownian Motion (FBM). The CPP and the ∑K k=1 ...

Method of DiffServ-Based Bandwidth-Sharing among Delay-Sensitive Traffic and Loss-Sensitive Traffic in Backbones

Real-time and multimedia applications require an end-to-end QoS guarantee, and various types of applications require various QoS conditions. A DiffServ network should guarantee different QoS conditions for different types of communications. In this paper, the effect of traffic control in a DiffServ core network is experimentally evaluated using bursty traffic generated by an MMPP (Markov-Modula...
